As I write this, Everton are playing their last ever match at Goodison Park. When the final whistle blows, the match will end, and so will a chapter of football history.

Over the course of 132 years, Goodison has hosted more top-flight games than any other stadium in England. The pitch has been graced by legends and local heroes. By Pele, Dixie Dean, Wayne Rooney, and Duncan Ferguson. The ground has been a sanctuary of loyalty, passion, and community for generations. The emotions inside the stadium today will be raw, complex, and incredibly powerful.

In our world of brand narratives and strategic messaging, we often chase the spectacular, the viral, the immediate. Yet Goodison's legacy was built differently. It was built through consistency, through presence, through being a steadfast companion throughout years of glory and pain.

For those of us who help brands tell their stories, there's a powerful lesson here. Enduring brands don't simply broadcast their importance. They earn it. They become part of people's personal histories, referenced in family conversations, and embedded in life's milestones and memories.

Goodison Park never needed to announce its significance. It simply stood, unwavering, as a place where memories were forged, where fathers introduced sons and daughters to their passion, where strangers became family through shared experience. The walls absorbed every roar, every groan, every whispered prayer.

What brand wouldn't yearn for such emotional resonance? To be more than chosen. To be cherished. Not simply to be recognised, but to be revered.

Next season, Everton fans will begin writing new stories in the shiny Hill Dickinson Stadium, but when they leave Goodison today, they will take their memories and the spirit of Goodison with them. The legacy of Goodison Park will continue to influence how Everton supporters see themselves and their place in the world.

The most powerful stories aren't constructed, they're cultivated. They don't grow from what we claim about ourselves, but from what we mean to others.

For every brand seeking to matter deeply, Goodison Park offers inspiration and a challenge. May we create not just campaigns, but experiences that people carry within them, long after the immediate moment has passed.

If you want to understand what Goodison Park means to Everton fans, listen to the brilliant Athletic podcast episode "Goodbye Goodison".
